Welcome to the show!
Kiya the Show is a fresh and professionally produced television and social media program highlighting music artists from Minnesota and beyond.
Back in 2022, After Math TV graciously recorded our pilot. Host and Twin Cities- based reporter Kiya Edwards sat down with national touring music artist Tae Supreme at Forgotten Star's beautiful and spacious event room in Fridley. Many people volunteered their time and talents, and we're forever grateful.
Now we're moving forward with an exciting and familiar partner!
Kiya the Show is set to premiere on KARE 11+. Stay tuned for the release date, and subscribe to Kiya Edwards and KARE 11.
About Kiya Edwards
Kiya Edwards is an international TV reporter currently working at KARE 11. She grew up in Minneapolis and is proud to be back in the area as of spring 2018.
Her career began shortly after undergrad, in fall 2011, with a leap of faith and a one-way ticket to Nairobi, Kenya. There wasn’t a job waiting for her when she landed but Kiya quickly became a lead reporter and host of "Africa Journal," an internationally aired show. Over the course of two years, she covered stories in Kenya, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Uganda, Rwanda, South Africa, Gabon, Cameroon, Nigeria, Morocco, and Italy.
After that, Kiya worked for KWQC TV 6-News in Davenport, Iowa, where she shot, wrote, and edited stories in one day often by herself. She also filled in on the anchor desk.
Kiya then jumped 80 TV markets, working at KSDK News in St. Louis. In addition to covering daily crime, the station sent her to Houston and New Orleans, where she provided live breaking news coverage of Hurricane Harvey and Tropical Storm Cindy respectively.
Kiya graduated from South High School in 2007 but spent sophomore year as an exchange student in Germany. She went on to double major in journalism and theater at the University of Minnesota, where she also joined Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.
Today, Kiya is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists. She's also a “Big Sister” through Big Brothers Big Sisters. As a former "Little Sister" in the program, Kiya has been honored to serve as the organization's gala emcee for four consecutive years.
In 2020, she partnered with Bay Laurel to create Tundra, a digital video series highlighting elite Minnesota music artists unable to perform due to the pandemic. She is excited to now launch her own show with a similar mission to showcase talent from Minnesota and beyond.
You can catch her new show on YouTube this fall. Meanwhile, she's on KARE 11 News weekdays at 5 and 6 p.m. or Breaking the News at 6:30 p.m. She also posts videos and news updates on social media.
